KatadataOTO – Japanese manufacturer, Toyota is reportedly ready to present a new hybrid car in the Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) segment, namely the Toyota Veloz Hybrid.

The model will be a new option filling the segment below the Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid.

Thus providing more choices for consumers who want to use the electrification lineup.

Not only marketing it, Toyota is also committed to locally assembling the Veloz Hybrid

If it has a high Domestic Component Level (TKDN), the Veloz Hybrid has the potential to be sold at a competitive price and receive incentives.

Especially if the battery is assembled domestically. Considering Toyota has established a partnership with the Chinese battery company, CATL.

Toyota is reluctant to speak openly about the realization of using CATL batteries but emphasizes that it will localize hybrid car components, including the latest Veloz and its battery.

“We hope that later, every time a component is localized, there will be incentives to make it faster,” said Bob Azam, Vice President Director of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) in Karawang recently.

Furthermore, in the future, they will soon announce the implementation of the Toyota and CATL partnership in the country.

The battery itself is one of the most expensive components in an electric vehicle.

Therefore, if localized, the price of the Veloz Hybrid is believed to become more competitive and reach more consumers,

Regarding the launch time, it seems the Toyota Veloz Hybrid will debut in Indonesia next year.

“It’s already far along (the preparation for the Veloz Hybrid launch), it just needs to land,” said Bob.

For your information, the arrival of the Veloz Hybrid in 2026 is said not to eliminate its gasoline engine variant.

This is one form of Toyota's commitment to providing various vehicle alternatives before the transition to the electrification lineup.

Additionally, Toyota's vehicle lineup is already compatible with the ethanol-blended fuel or E10 that the government plans to implement.

Thus, it can still take part in supporting the Net Zero Emission commitment through the use of more environmentally friendly fuel and reducing exhaust emissions.

“The Avanza-Veloz lineup is the same, plus a hybrid (version),” said Nandi Julyanto, President Director of PT TMMIN on a separate occasion.
