Toyota Veloz Hybrid Could Potentially Use Locally Assembled CATL Batteries

The launch strategy for the Toyota Veloz Hybrid is the same as for the Innova Zenix; the gasoline engine version will still be offered.
KatadataOTO – Toyota Veloz Hybrid is scheduled to launch soon for Indonesian consumers next year. It should be noted that the conventional engine version is still being marketed.
When asked about the fate of the gasoline engine Veloz variant after the launch of the hybrid type next year, Toyota stated that the old model will be retained.
This is part of Toyota's electrification line marketing strategy in the country.
A similar strategy has previously been implemented on other models like the Kijang Innova. To this day, the gasoline engine type and its sixth generation are still being sold and even contribute significant numbers.
Processed from data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), throughout July 2025, the wholesales (distribution from factory to dealer) of the Kijang Innova, including the Innova Reborn, were 4,311 units.
Both ranked first in the best-selling car category in July 2025, followed by the Toyota Avanza with 3,348 units.
Therefore, the presence of the Toyota Veloz Hybrid is confirmed not to immediately eliminate its gasoline engine variant.
“In terms of the line-up, the Avanza-Veloz is the same, plus the hybrid (version),” said Nandi Julyanto, President Director of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) in Jakarta, recently.
The option of a gasoline engine variant provides an alternative for customers before transitioning to the electrification line.
However, he ensures that the Veloz Hybrid can be a fitting addition to Toyota's line of environmentally friendly vehicles in Indonesia.
“It will just be a matter of marketing strategy arrangement,” Nandi explained briefly.
For your information, the Toyota Veloz Hybrid is scheduled to arrive after the locally assembled bZ4X is launched towards the end of 2025.
Toyota has confirmed that the Veloz Hybrid will be produced locally, just like its predecessor.
For the Veloz Hybrid's battery, it is mentioned that Toyota might collaborate with other parties to avoid the need for imports.
There is a possibility that the collaboration in question is with CATL. This decision could potentially make the final selling price of the Veloz Hybrid more competitive and is believed to be below the Innova Zenix Hybrid.
According to a Toyota salesperson, the price range for the Toyota Veloz Hybrid is Rp 300 million and above.
Currently, the Veloz in Indonesia is sold starting from Rp 297.2 million for the lowest type. Its highest variant is Rp 346.4 million on the road in Jakarta.
