KatadataOTO – PT TAM (Toyota Astra Motor) revealed that the GR Sport variant, which is the sporty version of their products, is in demand by domestic consumers.

In fact, in almost all vehicle segments offered by Toyota, the GR Sport type is purchased more often. Indonesia is said to be a country with very high interest in this variant.

However, upon observation, Toyota sedans in Indonesia are not available in the GR Sport variant, such as the latest Vios.

Meanwhile, in neighboring countries like Thailand and Malaysia, Toyota chooses to sell sedans with the added GR Sport label.

“We are also studying it, although the sedan segment is not too large (in Indonesia). But we want to develop or provide options to consumers,” said Anton Jimmi Suwandy, Marketing Director of PT TAM at JIExpo Kemayoran some time ago.

He emphasized that the GR Sport type in their sedan lineup already exists and is sold in various other countries. So, bringing it to the country is just a matter of study and time.

“We have to see, most buyers in this sedan segment are fleet customers or from the government. So we have to study it first,” he asserted.

For your information, the Toyota Vios is one of the sedans with a GR Sport type in Malaysia. Its latest generation was launched in the country in October 2022, receiving several changes, most of which are visible in the increasingly elegant exterior.

The new platform used makes it 10 mm wider, 20 mm lower, and has a 70 mm longer wheelbase compared to the previous version.

As for the powertrain, the fourth-generation Toyota Vios uses a 2NR-VE 1,500 cc four-cylinder engine combined with Dual VVT-i technology, producing 104.5 hp and a peak torque of 138 Nm.

This power is channeled to the front wheels through two transmission options: a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic.

In Malaysia, the Toyota Vios GR Sport is locally produced in two color options: white and metallic red. Its exterior gets an additional body kit to enhance its sporty impression.

For example, an aggressive bumper and aerokit, and the side mirrors are wrapped in black. Then, at the rear, there is a diffuser and a minimalist spoiler.
