The arrival of the Toyota Vios Hybrid is reportedly drawing near, with Thailand slated to be its debut location in August 2025.
KatadataOTO – Toyota is once again expanding its hybrid vehicle portfolio in the global market, as a form of its commitment to electrification through a multi-pathway approach.
It was recently reported that the Toyota Vios Hybrid is being prepared to launch in Thailand in August 2025.
Sold as the Yaris Ativ there, the sedan is a quite popular model. Just one month after the launch of the latest generation in 2022, Toyota secured 21,300 orders for the Vios in Thailand.
The Toyota Vios Hybrid has a high chance of being locally assembled in Thailand, with a powertrain configuration not much different from the Yaris Cross HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle).
Reporting from Autolifethailand, Monday (09/05), the Vios Hybrid will be equipped with a 1,500 cc hybrid engine codenamed 2NR-VEX, producing a maximum power of 91 hp and 121 Nm of torque, supported by an electric motor with 80 hp and 141 Nm of torque.
The combined performance of the combustion engine and electric motor is claimed to be able to produce 111 hp. The additional power source in the Vios Hybrid is a 0.7 kWh lithium-ion battery.
Various features from the previous Vios will be retained in the hybrid variant. Unfortunately, there is no further information regarding the selling price of the Vios Hybrid.
It should be noted that in the era of electrification in Indonesia, sedans are being repopularized by Chinese brands. The presence of the BYD Seal, which is an electric car, has become a consumer favorite.
Honda, not wanting to be left behind, recently brought in the Honda Civic RS e:HEV with a price tag of around IDR 699 million.
Meanwhile, one of Toyota's hybrid sedans is the Camry, sold for around IDR 950 million OTR (On The Road Jakarta).
It is not impossible that the Vios Hybrid will be introduced in the country, as an affordable version of a hybrid sedan from PT TAM (Toyota Astra Motor).
Currently, the second-generation Toyota Vios is sold domestically for between IDR 369.9 million and IDR 383.1 million. The units are no longer locally assembled but are fully imported, or CBU (Completely Built Up), from Thailand.
The Toyota Vios Hybrid still has a chance to liven up the hybrid car segment, which is becoming popular with consumers, in 2025. However, Toyota certainly needs to consider the price factor, especially if it wants to compete with Chinese brands.
Moreover, sedans are less popular in the country. This factor will also be considered if it is to be marketed domestically.
