KatadataOTO – Although Eid al-Fitr will only take place at the end of March 2025, used car sales in Indonesia have already seen an increase since the beginning of the year. This indicates that the public's demand for vehicles remains high.

This phenomenon is certainly beneficial for used car dealers as units can be sold faster than usual.

“It seems people prefer to buy vehicles early before the prices increase. The most sought-after are still three-row cars, especially MPVs,” said Chandra Sidik, Head of Trading at Broom, to KatadataOTO (06/02).

The high demand for MPVs is claimed to be due to their relatively large capacity, allowing them to accommodate more cargo. This advantage is still considered an added value, especially for those traveling for the homecoming exodus.

“As for the price range, the most sought-after is around Rp 100 million to Rp 150 million. Demand in this segment is very high leading up to the fasting month,” he added.

The options in this price range are quite diverse and can be tailored to individual needs. However, people generally look for units that are less than 10 years old.

“The ages vary, but most people are looking for models from 2017, 2018, and 2019. Cars from these years are already affordable, but they are not too old, so they still have very few issues,” he later said.

Even if there is any damage, it is usually minor and can be easily repaired without excessive costs. Additionally, spare parts are also generally still easy to find.

“The damage might just be tires, engine mounts, and the like. So it's not something serious that requires a major overhaul,” he later said.

Although buying a used car has many advantages, it is highly recommended that customers conduct a thorough inspection before making a purchase. Ensure that the unit has not been in a flood or a major accident.

This is especially important if you plan to use the car for the homecoming exodus, which involves long-distance travel. The risk of a breakdown on the road becomes much greater if maintenance is not performed beforehand.
