KatadataOTO – In 2025, the performance of the new motorcycle market in Indonesia is quite positive. It managed to deliver the best results despite difficult conditions.
The Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) has also set a sales target for new two-wheeled vehicles for the 2026 period.
However, the figure has not increased by much. This year, they want 6.7 million new motorcycle units to be sold.
Various parties have spoken out regarding this decision. Such as from Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM).
“Yamaha sees it positively, meaning that with the projected increase, AISI has considered many factors,” said Rifki Maulana, Manager of Public Relations, Community & YRA at YIMM some time ago.
According to Rifki, there are several things underlying AISI's decision. For example, the unstable economic factors in Indonesia.
Considering that last year, economic conditions were the main thing that disrupted the performance of the automotive industry in the country.
“This means there is a breath of fresh air, that perhaps the direction is positive for the automotive industry, especially for two-wheeled vehicles,” Rifki continued.
In addition, there are still a number of obstacles ready to face the performance of the new motorcycle market. Such as the surcharge policy on surcharge Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Vehicle Title Transfer Fee (BBNKB).
This year, the application of the PKB and BBNKB surcharges could be changed. Considering that in 2025, the relaxation provided in several regions is only temporary.
If the BBNKB and PKB surcharges are fully implemented, the impact will be an increase in the price of new motorcycles in 2026.
Of course, this will affect people's purchasing power. They might prefer to buy second-hand two-wheeled vehicles instead.
Nevertheless, Yamaha is trying to help AISI achieve the target that has been set for this year.
“As for us, we are ready to make that target a success,” Rifki affirmed.
For your information, throughout 2025, 6.4 million new motorcycles were successfully distributed from factories to dealers (wholesales). Therefore, AISI is only targeting 6.7 million units this year.
AISI admits to considering many things. Including anticipating a number of obstacles that have been previously explained.
“We understand the need for increased revenue for each regional government. Even if there is a surcharge increase, we hope to also be given incentives by not raising vehicle taxes,” said Sigit Kumala, Head of the Commercial Division at AISI on a different occasion.
Sigit believes that strong support from financing institutions is considered capable of driving sales realization in the domestic motorcycle market.
