KatadataOTO – Online motorcycle taxi (Ojol) drivers will hold a massive demonstration. The protest is planned to take place on Tuesday (20/05).

In this protest, both four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles will be involved. An estimated 500,000 drivers are expected to take part.

“We, the two-wheeled and four-wheeled ojol drivers, are fighting for our rights and justice due to the lack of firmness from the regulator, in this case, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia (RI),” said Raden Igun Wicaksono, Chairman of the Garda Indonesia Ojol Drivers Association, in an official statement on Monday (19/05).

Igun explained that there has been a prolonged neglect of regulatory violations from 2022 until now.

Therefore, they decided to hold a demonstration. This is a form of disappointment from the ojol drivers.

“Crowds of ojol drivers from various cities in Java and parts of Sumatra, as well as Jabodetabek, have entered the Jakarta area in waves,” he continued.

He further explained that all the protesters have gathered at several ojol community assembly points in the five regions of Jakarta.

They will then head to several locations to voice their aspirations during tomorrow's protest.

“The combined two-wheeled and four-wheeled Garda ojol protesters will spread massively throughout all areas of Jakarta, seeking locations related to the application companies' service centers,” said Igun.

For your information, tomorrow's ojol protest will be held starting at 13:00 WIB until Garda's demands are accepted by the Government, the DPR RI (House of Representatives), and the app companies agree to comply with existing regulations.

Not Accepting Orders

On the other hand, not only will a protest be held, but they will also carry out a mass shutdown of passenger, food, and goods delivery orders through the applications.

This means they will turn off their applications tomorrow from 00:00 WIB to 23:59 WIB. Therefore, the public is advised not to place any orders.

“This is an effort to avoid any undesirable incidents,” Igun affirmed.
