KatadataOTO – A disgraceful act occurred on Pondok Indah Highway, South Jakarta. A silver sedan was seen illegally drifting in a public area.
Clearly, the action drew a lot of criticism. Because it poses various dangers to other road users.
“If we look at this act, it was definitely done by a beginner. They always perform spectacular or challenging stunts,” said Sony Susmana, an instructor at Safety Defensive Consultant Indonesia (SDCI), to KatadataOTO on Friday (09/01).
Sony stated that the irresponsible individual's action is different from professional drifters who are full of calculation.
Therefore, the decision to drift in Pondok Indah was inappropriate, even though it was late at night or the streets were empty.
It should have been done in a special or closed area. So as not to endanger other road users or the surrounding community.
“So why do they do this? It's experience that hasn't been properly channeled emotionally,” Sony continued.
Furthermore, it was mentioned that the sport of drifting does have many risks and must be performed by professionals with extensive experience.
Because if not, there is a potential for accidents. Especially when performed on a public road or in a public location.
“It's true if you say that (they're seeking attention). Like I said before, the problem is they are beginners. Seniors and professionals would never do something like that,” Sony asserted.
For your information, the drifting car incident in Pondok Indah is being investigated by the South Jakarta Metro Police.
“Regarding the video circulating on social media of drifting in Pondok Indah, we will investigate it,” said Police Commissioner Mujiyanto, Head of the Traffic Unit (Kasat Lantas) of the South Jakarta Metro Police, as quoted by Antara.
According to Mujiyanto, the police are currently tracing the identity of the car driver who has been disturbing the public.
In addition, they are examining the circulating video so they can understand the chronology and the violations that occurred on site.
“We will then investigate the drifting activity,” Mujiyanto concluded.
Mujiyanto emphasized that such activities should only be carried out in designated special places or areas.
Take for example the safety driving facility at the National Police Traffic Education Center (Pusdik Lantas Polri) in Serpong, South Tangerang, Banten.
The police are also preparing several strategic steps to ensure similar incidents do not happen again in the future.
Such as coordinating with relevant stakeholders to increase patrols around the Pondok Indah area.
