Garbage trucks in Jakarta are now starting to use electric vehicles to reduce air pollution levels.

KatadataOTO – The DKI government is once again using Electric Vehicles (EV) as operational vehicles. This time, it's the Environmental Agency's turn to update its garbage truck fleet to be electric-based.
The presence of garbage trucks with electric technology is seen as a new solution to help reduce air pollution in the Capital City.
“This year we already have five units of electric compactor garbage trucks that are environmentally friendly and emission-free,” said Asep Kuswanto, Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH), as reported by Antara (14/04).
He added that the procurement of electric trucks is part of the rejuvenation of the garbage truck fleet owned by the DKI Jakarta DLH. By replacing some of the old fossil-fueled fleet with electric-based vehicles, his party is striving to build a more environmentally friendly waste management system.
“This step makes Jakarta one of the pioneering regions in Indonesia to use electric garbage trucks in its waste management operational activities,” he said.
It should be noted that this electric garbage truck has a carrying capacity of 6 cubic meters. The vehicle also uses a "plug-in" system and is capable of automatically compacting trash with minimal noise operation.
The equipment's dimensions include a length of 3,300 mm, a width of 1,700 mm, a height of 1,950 mm, and an empty weight of about 1,700 kg. The required electrical power is 1.5 kW, 3 phase.
This vehicle is also equipped with a digital control panel, a safety switch, and a "hydraulic control" unit to ensure safe and efficient operation of the equipment.
To meet operational needs, the Environmental Agency will provide Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) in several strategic locations. Starting from locations like the truck pool, RDF Plant Rorotan, and TPST Bantar Gebang.
Additionally, its charging technology uses a super fast charging system. Thus, the vehicle's battery can be fully charged in just 20 to 30 minutes.
To ensure driving safety, electric vehicle operators will receive special training. However, since the operating system has not changed much, it is expected to be mastered in a short time.
