KatadataOTO – Pramono Anung Wibowo, the Governor of DKI, plans to increase parking rates in Jakarta. This step is claimed to be taken to improve the transportation system in the Capital City.

However, he emphasized that the increase in parking rates will target people who are considered financially capable.

“My apologies to the well-off, but I will gradually increase the parking rates,” said Pramono as reported by Antara (11/06).

Not only that, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will also implement an Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system or electronic toll roads. With the increase in parking rates and the implementation of ERP, it is hoped that the use of private vehicles in Jakarta can decrease.

Unfortunately, as of the writing of this news, there is no information on the amount of the new parking rate increase. Likewise for the ERP cost, which is rumored to be implemented on several main roads in the Capital City.

The funds obtained from parking rates and ERP will later be redirected to subsidize public transportation services. Starting from TransJakarta, MRT to LRT, so they can be used for free by 15 priority community groups.

“For residents who are included in the 15 groups, riding the MRT, LRT, and TransJakarta is free. Even when TransJabodetabek is formed, people from Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi to Cianjur will also get free rides,” explained Pramono.

With this subsidy, it is hoped that community mobility can be maintained. Moreover, the DKI government has now expanded its public transportation network.
