KatadataOTO – 50 thousand online motorcycle taxi or ojol drivers will again hold a demonstration today (21/07) in front of the Merdeka Palace. The demonstration is planned to start at 13:00 WIB.

The large number of ojol drivers participating in the demonstration has prompted the police to plan traffic diversions. This is to avoid congestion and maintain a safe situation.

“Traffic diversions will be implemented situationally during the ojol demo, but hopefully, traffic can still run normally,” said Police Commissioner Komarudin, Director of Traffic for the Metro Jaya Regional Police in Jakarta (21/07).

He revealed that traffic diversions on Merdeka Selatan street will be implemented if the number of protesters increases.

Radeng Igun Wicaksono, Chairman of the Garda Indonesia Ojol Driver Association, revealed that their demonstration will be larger than the previous one. Therefore, it is hoped that the government will be able to respond more positively.

“This is an accumulation of disappointment from online drivers and couriers over the indecisiveness and slow response from the Ministry of Transportation, which has allowed previous demands to drag on,” he said, as reported by Antara (21/07).

Igun revealed that the government has made a counter-productive decision by increasing ojol fares by up to 15 percent. They also have other demands that will be conveyed during the demonstration.

5 Demands of Online Motorcycle Taxis

  1. The state to present an Online Transportation Law/PERPPU
  2. Application fee of 10 percent
  3. Regulation of fares for goods and food delivery
  4. Investigative audit of the app provider
  5. Eliminate 'aceng', slots, double orders, 'hemat' (saver), member, and other schemes, and return all to regular driver status.

Besides demonstrating at the State Palace, they also plan to hold similar activities in several other locations. Including around the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) building.

Not only that, they also plan to turn off their applications as a form of protest. This will certainly impact the mobility of the public, who are quite dependent on online motorcycle taxis.

Therefore, the public is advised to adjust their travel plans to avoid disruptions to their activities. It is a good idea to use public transportation such as TransJakarta, MRT, or LRT to get to your destination
