KatadataOTO – The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) is continuously working to improve its services. This includes when carrying out escort duties.

Currently, the police are drafting a revision of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for escorts and Highway Patrol (PJR).

“For the drafting of the escort and PJR SOP, we are changing the old SOP into a regulation from the Head of the Traffic Corps (Kakor), and from that regulation, a new SOP will be drafted,” said Police Commissioner Dessy Ismail, Acting Head of the Escort and PJR Sub-directorate of the National Police Traffic Corps' Law Enforcement Directorate, on the official National Police Traffic Corps website, Friday (05/12).

Dessy revealed that the new SOP is intended to provide clear guidelines for members in carrying out their duties.

So that performance accountability can be measured. Not acting arbitrarily or arrogantly while on duty.

Police Commissioner Dessy Ismail also detailed the workflow that will be regulated in the SOP. Such as the mechanism for requesting an escort.

“Then we carry out preparations and administration, after which we perform the escort duty. As for PJR, they carry out patrol duties on the toll road,” Dessy continued.

He also emphasized that after the verification process from the National Police's Legal Division is complete, the SOP will become the official foundation for members in carrying out escort and patrol duties.

Then providing legal certainty in every action in the field for escort and PJR personnel.

He hopes the SOP being drafted can be easily understood by all members. So the police can understand their main duties.

“It is hoped that this SOP will be easily understood by members, both at the central and regional levels. So that later with this SOP, members will not make mistakes in technical operations in the field,” Dessy affirmed.

Indeed, some time ago, police escorts came under the spotlight of many parties. Some were caught on camera acting arbitrarily on the road.

For example, in the case of a police officer who allegedly kicked a motorcyclist in Puncak Bogor, West Java, on Friday (14/03).

This allegedly happened because the motorcyclist was obstructing a white Toyota Alphard that was being escorted.

"Arrogant patrol officer on the Puncak route, forces a motorcyclist into a ditch," wrote the TikTok account @bogordaily.net.

The incident above immediately drew many responses from various parties. It was said that they did not prioritize ethics while on duty.

Thus causing friction with other road users. So the arrogant patrol officer's action in Puncak Bogor was regretted by many.
