KatadataOTO – Traffic congestion in the Special Region of Jakarta continues to be a topic of discussion. Because from day to day it does not improve, but instead gets worse.
This has prompted the Jakarta Bina Marga Agency to prepare several solutions. One of them is by building flyovers.
The step above is considered an effort to improve the safety and flow of traffic for vehicle users.
Especially since there are many railway crossings in Jakarta, making traffic congestion worse during rush hours.
“The construction of flyovers is expected to improve traffic safety and efficiency in Jakarta. Especially at railway crossings that are prone to congestion and accidents,” said Heru Suwondo, Head of the Jakarta Bina Marga Agency, to Antara on Tuesday (14/1).
Heru further explained that the construction of flyovers is in accordance with the law which requires roads and railway tracks to be upgraded, so they are not at the same level, through the creation of overpasses or underpasses (flyovers or underpasses).
Later, Bina Marga will build at two points. The first is the Latumenten Flyover on Latumenten Street, near the Mental Hospital.
Construction will be carried out on the east and west sides. The length of the west side will be 440.86 meters with a ROW (Right of Way) width of 11 meters.
Then, the length of the east side will be 439.23 meters with a ROW of 10 meters, so it can accommodate many vehicles.
Then they also plan to build the Bintaro Puspita Flyover. It will have a length of 441 meters with a ROW of nine meters.
Thus, it is hoped to be able to overcome the frequent traffic congestion at the railway crossing in the Bintaro area.
“The construction of these two flyovers is carried out using a multi-year budget,” he asserted.
He is also committed to completing these projects on time and in accordance with the established quality standards.
As a reminder, in the 2024 Global Traffic Scoreboard report released by Inrix, Jakarta was named the seventh most congested city.
This result should certainly be noted because in 2023, Inrix placed Jakarta in 10th place.
It is said that Jakarta residents have to spend about 89 hours per year on the road in 2024. That number is higher than in 2023, which was only 69 hours.
Vehicle speeds also range around 20.9 km per hour, showing how dense the daily traffic is
