KatadataOTO – Owners of vehicles that do not pass emission tests must now be vigilant. Violators face criminal penalties of six months imprisonment and a fine of Rp 50 million.

This rule is in accordance with article 41 paragraph 2 of Regional Regulation 2/2005 concerning Air Pollution Control. Therefore, owners are expected to maintain the condition of their vehicles.

According to Asep Kuswanto, Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, emission tests are very important because they can provide an overview of the engine's condition and performance.

“If all vehicles meet the threshold, it is hoped that the contribution of the transportation sector, which has been the largest contributor to pollution, can be significantly reduced," said Asep Kuswanto, as reported by Antara (04/06).

He also revealed that based on a study conducted by the Environmental Agency and Vital Strategies, heavy vehicles such as dump trucks or container trucks are the largest contributors to air pollution.

Therefore, they collaborated with several agencies to conduct emission tests in Plumpang, North Jakarta. This joint operation targets heavy vehicles for emission test law enforcement.

At least 44 trucks and container trucks were tested. Of that number, 35 units were declared to have passed, while the other nine did not meet the requirements.

"The vehicles that failed the emission test consist of freight transport, tow trucks, and water tanker trucks. The next step is for the violators to undergo a Minor Criminal Offense Trial (Tipiring) on Wednesday, (11/6) at the North Jakarta District Court,” he asserted.

It was previously reported that the DKI Jakarta provincial government (Pemprov) is once again intensifying emission tests for vehicles operating in the capital. This is to improve the air quality in the Capital City.

Moreover, in 2024, the number of cars and motorcycles that have undergone these tests is only 8 percent. This is certainly unfortunate because emission testing is actually an obligation and is already stipulated in DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation No. 66 of 2020.
