BYD unveils an EV platform that can be fast-charged in just five minutes, its stock skyrocketed.
“To solve consumers' charging anxiety, we are pursuing the goal of making the charging time for electric cars as fast as refueling a conventional car,” said Wang Chuanfu, founder of BYD, as quoted from Drive, Thursday (20/03).
It should be noted that in its home country, a number of consumers have often criticized the slow DC charging of BYD.
BYD's LFP battery, the Blade Battery, does require a longer charging time than other types like ternary NMC. However, the advantage it offers is the highest level of safety.
Finally, this automotive giant from China decided to present a solution so that consumers no longer have to bother with charging their vehicles.
Before the launch of the charging technology, BYD had also introduced a new breakthrough in the form of the God’s Eye self-driving technology, which will be embedded for free in various new BYD car lines.
This resulted in many of BYD's other rivals in the domestic Chinese market having to accept defeat and lose market share, for example, Tesla and Volkswagen.
Not only that, in the first two months of 2025, BYD successfully contributed 27 percent of China's electric car production with sales figures reaching 450 thousand units.
BYD also holds an 18 percent market share for pure electric cars, or BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles), and 56 percent for PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles) in China.
