Indonesia responded to an incident involving one of its vehicles during a test drive session in Serpong.
KatadataOTO – Lepas Indonesia held a media first-drive session before its first car is officially marketed. The event was titled Lepas L8 Driving Control Challenge.
This activity is said to be designed to provide driving experience for media crews in particular. Especially in conditions beyond normal daily use.
Because the test session creates scenarios at high speed, uneven road surfaces up to speed bumps.
Then the event itself is said to not only give journalists the chance to try the Lepas L8, but also to gather feedback.
The hope is to enrich Lepas's internal perspective as a brand. Thus it is believed that with input, they can improve the product.
However, during the activity on 29 January 2026 there was a shocking incident. One Lepas L8 unit experienced a problem and had to be pulled off the track.
Lepas itself provided clarification on the incident.
“During the implementation of the activity, a situational dynamic was observed in one of the five units used. That condition is individual and does not represent the condition or character of the product line,” said Ricky He, Deputy Director Lepas Indonesia in a press release quoted (31/01).
Furthermore, he stated that Lepas is studying this incident. The review is said to be carried out as a learning process and continuous improvement for Lepas in Indonesia.
The Lepas L8 tested by the media crew experienced a broken drive axle or CV joint. That component broke after the vehicle repeatedly struck speed bumps.
Resulting in one Lepas L8 unit being pulled from the test track.
“We greatly appreciate the attention, feedback and insights provided. Lepas supports open dialogue to improve product quality,” explained Ricky He.
He further stated that Lepas is fully committed to maintaining the highest quality and safety standards.
Because every product development aims to provide the highest driving experience to consumers.
The Lepas L8 itself is planned to start marketing at the IIMS 2026 (Indonesia International Motor Show).
The Lepas L8 is offered at an estimated price of Rp 589 million. The PHEV-type car claimed to be able to travel up to 1,300 km.
When using EV driving mode, the vehicle is believed to travel 100 km.
