KatadataOTO – Although car sales have been sluggish in recent years, Lepas sees that Indonesia still has a lot of potential. Therefore, they are committed to launching at least 12 models in three years.
That number will consist of six SUVs and six sedans so that people can more easily choose the model they want.
“In three years, we will launch 12 new models consisting of SUVs and sedans. All of this is proof of Lepas's long-term commitment in the country,” said Ricky He, Deputy Country Director of Lepas Business Unit Indonesia.
Of the 12 models, three have already been introduced in Indonesia, namely the Lepas L8, L6, and L4. Each is claimed to have attractive advantages to entice the domestic market.
“Then we will also launch our first electric car in Indonesia, the Lepas E4, which enters the SUV segment. This EV is planned to be introduced at the IIMS 2026 event and officially launched in April 2026,” he then added.
Unfortunately, he did not explain in detail the specifications embedded in their first electric car. However, the vehicle will be produced directly in Indonesia through facilities owned by Handal Indonesia Motor.
Although Lepas has introduced itself since the middle of last year, this Chinese manufacturer has not yet started production. They will only begin the process in February 2026, with the L8 as their first model.
In the initial production phase, the manufacturer will produce around 1,000 units of vehicles first. This number is believed to be sufficient to meet market demand at the beginning of the year.
“So customers who have already ordered can use it for the 2026 Eid homecoming trip,” said Zheng Shuo, President Director of Chery Group Indonesia (19/01).
He is also optimistic that this car can meet the needs of the community, especially for long-distance travel. This is because the Lepas L8 is equipped with a turbo engine and an electric motor with a power of 205 kW (274 hp) and a torque of 365 Nm.
That performance remains efficient because it is equipped with an 18.4 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery. Thanks to this, the car can travel about 100 km in electric mode.
When long-distance travel is needed, the PHEV architecture on this platform provides a total range of up to 1,300 km (WLTC). Its charging is also flexible as it is equipped with 40 kW DC Fast Charging, so charging from 30 percent to 80 percent can be completed in 20 minutes.
