Hybrid Car Incentives Deemed Insufficient, Reflecting Global Trends

Currently, a number of countries are reportedly starting to focus on developing hybrid cars for the market rather than BEVs.

“If we look at the global trend, hybrids are now getting attention. Before we fall behind, it's better that we also start earlier,” Kukuh continued.

Kukuh wants Indonesia to be like other countries and start focusing on marketing hybrid cars, so that more people will adopt environmentally friendly four-wheeled vehicles.

“If I'm not mistaken, China is also refocusing on hybrids and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV),” Kukuh asserted.

Said to Have Lower Emissions

On the other hand, a similar sentiment was also expressed by Riyanto, an automotive observer and a researcher at LPEM FEB UI. According to him, it is time for the government to pay more attention to hybrid cars.

Moreover, he revealed that BEVs only contributed 54 percent to the emission reduction in Indonesia from the beginning of 2025 to the middle of this year.

“However, the largest contribution to emission reduction if we accumulate from 2021 to 2025 is not from BEVs. But hybrids reached 61 percent, contributed by HEVs and PHEVs,” said Riyanto.

Therefore, Riyanto and Kukuh are in agreement in asking the government to start paying more attention to hybrid cars.
