KatadataOTO – Welcoming the weekend, the DKI government is once again implementing the Jakarta odd-even traffic restriction to reduce congestion. This measure is a key strategy as it is considered quite successful in reducing the number of operating vehicles.

This is because people must match their license plate numbers with the date to avoid traffic fines. The amount is quite significant, reaching hundreds of thousands of rupiah.

Today, Friday (17/01), it is the turn for cars with odd-numbered plates to pass freely on dozens of main roads. Meanwhile, vehicles with even-numbered plates must wait until the restriction period is over.

To improve mobility, the government has provided several public transportation facilities. Ranging from TransJakarta, LRT, MRT to KRL with affordable fares, ensuring mobility is maintained.

It should be noted that the government only implements the Jakarta odd-even rule in the morning and afternoon. Thus, people can still use cars with even-numbered plates for activities at certain times.

Jakarta Odd-Even Schedule

  • Morning : 06.00 WIB to 10.00 WIB
  • Afternoon : 16.00 WIB to 21.00 WIB

Not only that, the government will also provide several alternative routes that can be used by cars with non-compliant plates. However, the routes are detours, making the travel time longer.

In addition, several vehicles are also given leeway and are not affected by the Jakarta odd-even rule. One of them is electric cars, whose development is currently being encouraged by the central government.

List of Vehicles Exempt from Jakarta's Odd-Even Rule

  • Electric cars
  • TNI-Polri vehicles
  • Ambulances
  • Fire trucks
  • Vehicles for health workers, including doctors
  • Public transport and taxis

Besides deploying officers, the police also use technology to monitor traffic. From Static to Mobile ETLE (Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement) will be deployed during the traffic engineering.

All violations will be subject to a fine of Rp 500,000. This rule is in accordance with article 287 of Law Number 12 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ).

To make the Jakarta odd-even rule more effective, the police are implementing a contraflow system on the inner-city toll road, effective from km 0+200 (Cawang) to km 7+200 (Semanggi) from 06.00 to 10.00 WIB.

The DKI government is also carrying out traffic engineering in several locations to support MRT construction. Therefore, the public is expected to adjust their travel schedules.
