KatadataOTO – Indonesia has become one of the countries that exports vehicles to various markets around the world. Even when the global situation is uncertain, the number of CBU and CKD shipments has managed to grow.
Based on Gakindo data, total exports of CBU vehicles from January to December 2025 reached 518,212 units. This figure is up 9.7 percent or 46,018 units compared to the previous year's achievement of only 472,194 units.
Toyota is the manufacturer that exports the most units to various countries. Throughout 2025, they recorded shipping 175,446 cars and controlled 33.9 percent of the total national vehicle exports.
If looked at in more detail, the figure increased by 8,915 units or 5.4 percent compared to 2024. At that time, they were only able to ship 166,531 units with a market share of 35.3 percent.
Besides Toyota, Daihatsu's exports also grew in 2025. Throughout the year, they shipped 124,848 units, or 14,514 more units than in 2024 when they only shipped 110,334 units.
Then, Suzuki also recorded significant export growth in 2025. The company with the S logo shipped 30,636 units, an increase of 11,495 units or 60.1 percent from 2024, which was only 19,141 units.
Growth did not only occur in CBU vehicle exports. CKD car shipments also experienced growth.
Throughout 2025, 63,263 sets of cars were shipped, a growth of 36.6 percent from January – December 2024, which was only 46,311 units.
Hyundai is the manufacturer that ships the most units in CKD form. The South Korean company shipped at least 48,157 sets, a significant jump of 40,356 units or 517.3 percent compared to the previous period's 7,801 units.
The second position is occupied by Suzuki after shipping 8,522 units. This number grew by 1,910 units or 28.9 percent compared to the same period the previous year, which was 6,612 units.
Despite experiencing growth, car manufacturers from Indonesia must be prepared to face challenges in 2026. This is because the geopolitical situation is currently uncertain, potentially impacting vehicle shipments.
“The current geopolitical crisis is causing the world to seem divided. The threat to the automotive industry today is the interdependence between countries. If one is disrupted, it will certainly hinder the industry,” said Bob Azam, Vice President Director of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) to KatadataOTO some time ago.
