KatadataOTO – BYD targets exporting 1.3 million of its vehicles outside of China by 2026. This number is a 25 percent increase compared to their achievement in 2025.
During that period, they successfully shipped at least 1.04 million car units. These vehicles were then sent to various countries, including Indonesia, where the market is currently growing.
The decision to increase the number of exports shows that BYD will be aggressive in the global market. Moreover, they can now ship vehicles to Canada.
BYD's sales growth outside of China in 2025 is indeed commendable. This is because they managed to get a positive response in various regions they had not previously entered.
BYD also recorded increased sales in Europe while accelerating market entry and sales in Latin America and Southeast Asia. The Chinese manufacturer was also noted to be present in 110 countries by the end of 2025.
Not only that, BYD also continues to invest by establishing factories in several countries. Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Brazil are countries that have been made into production centers.
BYD has also started operating a factory in Hungary. Its presence is very important as it is the gateway for their presence in the European market.
In 2026, BYD has also committed to starting their production in Indonesia. The factory will be located in the Subang area, West Java.
The facility will later have a capacity of 150,000 units per year. This number is certainly very large, considering their sales in the country have not yet reached 50,000 units per year.
It should be noted that throughout 2025, BYD sold 4,550,036 units worldwide. This figure is 7.1 percent higher than last year's achievement, which was at the level of 4,250,370 units.
Of this total, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) technology cars are still the company's backbone. Throughout 2025, BYD sold at least 2,288,709 PHEV units.
Meanwhile, electric car sales recorded a figure of 2,254,714 units. This result makes BYD the largest EV manufacturer in the world.
