Nissan's sales in Indonesia mirror the continuous decline in its home country, amidst various challenges.
KatadataOTO – Nissan is one of the Japanese manufacturers that seems to be struggling to maintain sales amidst various market challenges.
In Indonesia, Nissan's sales performance is not doing so well compared to other Japanese competitors. This is compounded by the presence of various Chinese manufacturers.
Processed from Gaikindo (Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries) data, Nissan only recorded retail sales (from dealer to consumer) of 76 units throughout May 2025.
This figure has been declining since April, which was 84 units, after reaching a high for 2025 in March with 163 units.
In comparison, Nissan's retail sales from January-May 2025 fell by 8.2 percent to 525 units from 572 units in the same period of 2024.
Meanwhile, throughout 2024, Nissan only managed to sell 1,472 vehicles. This is a far cry from rivals like Suzuki (69,392 units), Mitsubishi (74,030 units), and Toyota (293,788 units).
In the era of electrification, the Nissan Leaf electric car, once touted as a pioneer of EVs (Electric Vehicles) in the country, has not been heard from in a long time.
