There are several factors contributing to the popularity of cars priced above Rp 300 million among the Indonesian public.

KatadataOTO – The new car market in Indonesia is facing a rather difficult situation. One of the factors is the sharp decline in the purchasing power of the lower-middle class.

This can be seen in the distribution data from factory to dealer (wholesales) for Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) four-wheeled vehicles.

According to the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), shipments of low-cost cars in July 2025 were only 8,923 units.

This figure is quite far from the achievement in July 2024. In the same period last year, it was at the level of 14,809 units.

This means there was a decrease of about 5,886 LCGC cars distributed to dealers during that period.

Then, it can also be seen that the number of Vehicle Order Letters (SPK) for Daihatsu at GIIAS 2025 has not shown positive performance. They were only able to record 580 units.

The number above is only slightly higher than the 539 SPK last year. This achievement is still far from GIIAS 2023.

The manufacturer, which relies on cars priced from Rp 100 million to Rp 300 million, managed to pack 1,203 SPK two years ago.

This shows that four-wheeled vehicles priced at Rp 300 million and below are under considerable pressure.

Meanwhile, cars priced above Rp 300 million are actually in high demand. Take for example the Mitsubishi Destinator, which was the star at GIIAS 2025.

The new product became Mitsubishi's backbone, contributing more than 1,900 SPK out of the total 4,110 SPK collected yesterday.

Meanwhile, the price of the Mitsubishi Destinator ranges from Rp 385 million to a high of Rp 495 million.

Then, Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) claimed that in just eight days of the exhibition, they had recorded 4,250 orders.

From the number above, the largest contributor to Toyota's orders at GIIAS 2025 was supported by the Innova Zenix model.

Because if you look at the price, the Toyota Innova Zenix starts from Rp 419 million for the lowest type. Then, the most expensive variant is priced at Rp 614 million.
