KatadataOTO – 2026 has entered its tenth day. A number of parties have determined their steps to navigate this year.

Including those prepared by the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI). They have set a new target for sales of new motorcycles in 2026.

“We project the domestic motorcycle market to be relatively stable this year at 6.4 million to 6.7 million units,” said Sigit Kumala, Head of the Commercial Division of AISI, in a written statement on Saturday (09/01).

Sigit explained that AISI has considered various factors in determining the above figures.

Such as economic conditions in Indonesia and abroad. Because in 2026 the situation has not fully recovered.

In addition, there is still the possibility that the policy of surcharge on Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Vehicle Title Transfer Fee (BBNKB) will become a stumbling block.

Considering that in several regions, the regulation was only temporary last year. So there is still a chance for it to change again in 2026.

“We understand the need for revenue increases for each regional government. Even if there is a surcharge increase, we hope incentives can also be given by not raising vehicle taxes,” continued Sigit.

It was further mentioned that if regional governments are willing to provide relaxation, it will not have much impact on consumers.

Moreover, there are still several obstacles ready to hinder the performance of the new motorcycle market in the country.

Take for example the multiplier effect of global geopolitical conditions that could potentially affect the economy and the domestic motorcycle market.

In addition, commodity prices and weather conditions will also affect the stability of the public's purchasing power for two-wheeled vehicles this year.
