Uncontrolled Vehicle Growth Is the Root Cause of Jakarta's Traffic Jams
The growth in the number of vehicles is not commensurate with the road infrastructure, thereby exacerbating Jakarta's traffic congestion.

Syafrin explained that the average congestion level in Jakarta is above 50 percent. In 2023, it even reached 53 percent.
“We see that one of the root causes of congestion in Jakarta is the still-static traffic light settings. This causes spatial inefficiency at every existing intersection,” he concluded.
Efforts to Handle Jakarta's Traffic Jams
Meanwhile, Syafrin explained that the regional government has made various efforts to overcome Jakarta's traffic jams.

For example, by encouraging a paradigm shift in the community's use of private vehicles for daily activities.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government wants the public to rely more on public transportation when they want to work or go to school.
“Over the last five years, we have massively improved public transport services. They have been fully integrated, and now we are starting to address how to control the traffic,” Syafrin concluded his statement.
