It should be noted that this rule only applies to open-bed trucks. The rules for tanker trucks are different; here is a summary.

Truck Dimension Regulations

Open-Bed Cargo Trucks

Maximum Cargo Bed Width

• Not to exceed 50 mm from the outermost tire for dual-axle vehicles
• Not to exceed the cabin width +50 mm on the right or left side for single-axle vehicles

Maximum Cargo Bed Length

• Not to exceed 3,000 mm (1.1 configuration) with a GVW up to 5,500 kg
• Not to exceed 4,000 mm (1.2 configuration) with a GVW up to 8,500 kg
• Not to exceed 5,000 mm (1.2 configuration) with a GVW up to 16,000 kg
• Not to exceed 6,000 mm (1.22 configuration) with a GVW up to 24,000 kg

Maximum Cargo Bed Height

• Not to exceed 550 mm (1.1 configuration) with a GVW up to 5,500 kg
• Not to exceed 700 mm (1.2 configuration) with a GVW up to 8,500 kg
• Not to exceed 850 mm (1.2 configuration) with a GVW up to 16,000 kg
• Not to exceed 1,100 mm (1.1.22 configuration) with a GVW up to 30,000 kg

Tanker Trucks

Distance from Rear Cabin Wall to Front Tank Wall

• Minimum 150 mm (single rear axle)
• Minimum 200 mm (dual rear axle)

Distance from Rear Bumper to Rear of Tank

• Minimum 150 mm

Length, Width, Height, and Diameter of the Tank

• Carrying Capacity
• Specific Gravity of the Load
• Calculated from the GVW minus the empty chassis weight, tank weight, number of people, and other equipment.
