Test Drive Chery Tiggo 8 CSH, An Alternative Gasoline Car with an EV Feel

KatadataOTO had the opportunity to test drive the latest Chery Tiggo 8 CSH hybrid car on the PIK 2-Bandung-PIK 2 route.

Katadata OTO Rating:

Comfortable and powerful, ergonomic riding position, fuel efficient

The feature settings are complicated, and the steering correction from the LKA feature feels jarring.

The gas pedal is an organ-style model. The foot position feels more comfortable during long-distance driving.

Driving Impression

From the KM 92 A rest area to the Grand Mercure Bandung hotel, KatadataOTO got its turn to drive.

With a comfortable driving position, the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH felt easy to control and not intimidating.

Most of our travel time was spent on the toll road. The Chery Tiggo 8 CSH's 1,500 cc turbo engine makes this rather large SUV accelerate easily and feel responsive.

However, one point of note is one of the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) features of the Tiggo 8 CSH.

The steering correction when we drove over the dashed lines on the toll road felt a bit rough and startling. The light steering control made us feel more awkward when the LKA (Lane Keep Assist) was active.

For comparison, in a similar hybrid SUV like the Honda CR-V e:HEV, the steering correction is smoother, preceded by a fairly strong vibration to remind the driver when leaving the lane or crossing road markings.

When it was my turn to sit in the second-row passenger seat for the journey from Land’s End PIK 2 to the KM 92 A rest area, sitting in the back, the cabin felt very spacious.

There is an armrest in the middle with a cup holder. Then, there are two charging sockets for smart devices, USB type and Type-C.

A slightly firm suspension is a characteristic of an SUV. But on the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH, it doesn't compromise comfort.

Cabin quietness is an advantage of the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH that we noticed first. We compared it with the Honda HR-V Hybrid.

When trying that new SUV from Honda, sounds from around the car and tire noise were clearly audible in the cabin.
