KatadataOTO – Although not yet in the top five, April 2025 marks a special record for electric vehicles in Indonesia. This is because four models made it onto the list, and all of them are from Chinese manufacturers.
Based on Gaikindo data, the BYD Sealion 7, BYD M6, Chery J6, and Denza D9 successfully entered the top 20. This figure indicates the high public interest in electric vehicles.
However, the dominance of gasoline-powered vehicles from Japanese manufacturers is still very strong. In fact, only the BYD Sealion 7 managed to break into the top 10 best-selling cars of April 2025.
It should be noted that the best-selling car for April 2025 was dominated by the Daihatsu Sigra. The LCGC recorded wholesale figures of 4,020 units, surpassing the Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix which only recorded 2,846 units.
Although it was the best-selling car last month, the Toyota Avanza had to step down to third place in April 2025. The model only had 2,595 units delivered to dealers.
Meanwhile, the Honda Brio had to settle for fourth place with wholesale figures of 2,174 units. Then, the Toyota Rush closed out the top five after successfully delivering 2,019 units to dealers throughout Indonesia.
The BYD Sealion 7 became the best-selling electric car in Indonesia in April 2025 with sales of 1,793 units, placing it in sixth position. That number is slightly more than the Toyota Kijang Innova, which achieved wholesale figures of 1,742 units.
The Daihatsu Ayla was behind it with wholesale figures reaching 1,564 units, sitting in eighth place. Then, the Toyota Fortuner was in ninth place thanks to the delivery of 1,340 units.
The top 10 best-selling cars in Indonesia was closed by the Toyota Calya. The LCGC achieved 1,272 units throughout April 2025.
