KatadataOTO – The BYD Racco was a topic of public discussion. This is because the electric kei car was launched at the Japan Mobility Show some time ago.
The presence of this Electric Vehicle (EV) has made many parties curious. Including consumers in Indonesia.
Many people are wondering whether the BYD Racco has a chance of hitting the roads in the country or not.
“Indeed, the enthusiasm for the Racco is quite high, especially since it was just launched in Japan,” said Luther T. Panjaitan, Head of Public and Government Relations at BYD Motor Indonesia, at GJAW 2025.
According to Luther, they have the opportunity to bring the BYD Racco to the country. However, it must go through several considerations first.
For example, the Indonesian market condition does not yet have a kei car segment like in Japan. Therefore, BYD requires in-depth analysis.
Whether consumers in the country are truly willing and interested in buying the BYD Racco or not.
“Because it (the Racco) is made directly by BYD, it is very possible to bring it to Indonesia,” continued Luther.
So, it is worth waiting for further news about the BYD Racco. Whether it can be purchased by consumers in the country or not.
As a reminder, the BYD Racco features a compact and boxy design, typical of Japanese kei cars.
The BYD electric kei car appears to be coated in a white color. Then there are black accents on several of its pillars.
The front features a closed grille. It is then combined with a two-layer Daytime Running Light (DRL) that is integrated with the turn signals.
Moving to the lights, both the front and rear are smoked. Making the BYD kei car look quite sporty
Making it more interesting, the BYD Racco features a floating roof style. Giving a modern yet functional impression.
The Electric Vehicle (EV) is equipped with four doors, with a sliding model at the rear. It also has privacy glass.
In terms of performance, the BYD Racco carries a 20 kWh battery. This allows the electric car to travel 180 km on a single charge.
The electric four-wheeler is also equipped with an AC system with a heat pump for power efficiency, and supports DC fast charging up to 100 kW.
The price of the BYD Racco is 2.6 million yen, or equivalent to around Rp 275 million. This electric four-wheeler will challenge a number of other Japanese kei cars.
