KatadataOTO – The SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) crossover BAIC X55-II recently received a refresh, especially on the exterior. This was done after receiving feedback from consumers.

It should be noted that BAIC brought two models to Indonesia, namely the X55-II and the BJ40 Plus. However, the sales performance of the X55-II was not as good as the BJ40 Plus.

According to BAIC Indonesia, the competition in the crossover SUV class is quite tough. There are already many competitors in the Rp 400 million and above price range, such as the Chery Omoda 5.

But with the latest refresh of the BAIC X55-II, this Chinese brand hopes its sales can improve. Throughout 2024, only 70 units of the BAIC X55-II were sold.

“(BAIC's target is) 500 units this year. So (around) 50-60 units per month,” said Dhani Yahya, Chief Operating Officer of BAIC Indonesia, on the sidelines of the X55-II Facelift launch in Tangerang some time ago.

Dhani revealed that the latest version of the X55-II offers a lot of value to consumers. For example, the highest trim level is Rp 50 million cheaper than the previous model.

Then, there is a new Lite variant priced more affordably in the Rp 300 million range. Some features have been reduced, such as electric mirrors and the panoramic sunroof.

“Basically, this vehicle (the Lite type) is sufficient. Consumers may not need a panoramic roof or dual-zone AC, I think there will be a segment for each,” said Dhani.

Then there is the addition of a black color that was not previously available. Before, the BAIC X55-II did emphasize a lifestyle concept with eccentric colors.

“We will expand the (variants), that's the strategy. Not just one like before,” said Dhani.

The company is optimistic it can achieve the sales target with the new strategy.

“We have heard from consumers what they are satisfied with and what they are not. When they are not satisfied and we serve them well, they will become loyal customers,” Dhani emphasized.

For your information, the BAIC X55-II facelift no longer uses the Beijing logo because it is considered too closely associated with the name of China's capital city.

The new X55-II model is now branded as BAIC, with the hope that it can help strengthen the brand in the country.

Existing customers who want to change the logo can submit a request to BAIC. Unfortunately, BAIC has not yet been able to disclose the exact price range for replacing the logo on the front fascia and rear of the car.
