KatadataOTOElectric car manufacturers in China are competing to introduce innovations. This is done in order to attract many consumers.

BYD is one of the manufacturers that often makes breakthroughs. Such as the range of technologies in their Electric Vehicle (EV) line.

BYD's rapid progress in innovation has actually made rivals interested in studying and trying to copy it.

“This pattern has led to internal discussions at BYD about whether continuous innovation is still beneficial if the results are copied,” said Li Yunfei, General Manager of Brand & Public Relations for BYD Group, to Carnewschina on Friday (02/01).

He said that usually one company takes the lead first. Then other brands will follow within one to three years.

This has apparently been quite unsettling for BYD. However, it does not stop them from continuing to innovate.

“The company concluded that innovation must continue, because without original breakthroughs, eventually there will be nothing for others to copy,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Li did not deny that Wang Chuanfu, the founder of BYD, plays a major role in delivering various breakthroughs.

Chuanfu is said to be not just the company's leader. But is also directly involved in the research and development process.

He also often attends all-day technical meetings, discussing matters down to the scientific details. Such as battery reactions and the capacity of the power grid for fast charging.

On the other hand, BYD's research consistency is also evident from new patents. The Chinese brand recently registered several breakthroughs until the end of 2025.

For example, an electric motor technology that is claimed to be able to adjust magnetic force to be more efficient in various conditions.

“BYD anticipates that the launch of major technologies in the future will continue to attract attention and be copied,” he said.

Nevertheless, Li mentioned that this is quite normal in competition. So, copying innovations often happens.

The electric car manufacturer also views this process as a contribution to the development of the industry as a whole.

Based on the facts above, BYD continues to strengthen the development of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and hybrids.

Furthermore, BYD is also preparing new innovations for the future. Thus being able to meet the needs of consumers.

That way, various electric cars equipped with the latest technology can soon be marketed to automotive enthusiasts.
