KatadataOTO – BYD is aware that one of the challenges in developing the electric car market is the long charging time. Therefore, they continue to carry out development to answer this challenge.
The Chinese manufacturer recently launched a charging network named the Super e-Platform. With this technology, charging can reach 1,000 kilowatts, allowing the car's battery to be charged more quickly.
This speed is even higher than Tesla's Supercharger, which only offers up to 500 kW. BYD's facility is a unique attraction because, in five minutes, the car can be used again to travel up to 400 km.
This charging technology is key to increasing the adoption of electric cars. This is because the technology is considered capable of overcoming the concerns of EV drivers when they want to charge their vehicles in a short amount of time.
“To address user concerns, we have responded by making EV charging as short as the time it takes to refuel a gasoline vehicle,” said Wang Chuanfu, CEO of BYD, as reported by Reuters some time ago.
However, this charging method cannot yet be used for all BYD models. Only a few models, such as the Han L and Tang L, can utilize it.
BYD also revealed their readiness to build at least 4,000 ultra-fast charging facilities throughout China. Unfortunately, BYD did not disclose the size of the investment they made to bring it to fruition. However, the figure is estimated to be quite large, considering that most BYD vehicle owners in China still rely on facilities provided by third parties.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, BYD has been quite aggressive in providing charging facilities. Each dealership has been equipped with these facilities so that customers can make good use of them.
These facilities are becoming increasingly important given the significant increase in the number of electric cars they sell in the country. Based on Gaikindo data, from January to November 2025, BYD's retail sales have reached 39,389 units.
This number is up 237.1 percent compared to the same period last year, which only recorded 11,654 units. With this achievement, BYD has become the sixth-largest car manufacturer in Indonesia, controlling 5.3 percent of total national vehicle sales.
