KatadataOTO – BYD has successfully dominated sales of electrified vehicles (electric cars and PHEVs) in at least seven countries outside of China in the first half of 2025. This number shows the significant global public interest in using EVs.

Li Yunfei, General Manager of Brand and Public Relations at BYD, revealed that the company has successfully led the electrified vehicle segment in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Spain, Italy, and Brazil.

BYD has been actively expanding its export markets. This move is in line with their target to sell half of their total production outside of China by 2030.

Li Yunfei revealed that the company successfully sold 4,909 vehicle units in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, in Singapore, BYD sold 4,667 units.

Meanwhile, in the first half in Thailand, BYD sold 24,072 cars. That number is up 64.1 percent compared to the previous year. This figure is almost four times higher than MG, which is in second place.

BYD also received a positive response in Indonesia, selling 14,092 vehicles from January 1 to June 30, 2025. This figure does not yet include Denza sales, which amounted to 5,733 units.

This means BYD has sold 19,825 cars in the local market in the first half of 2025.

Positive results were also achieved by BYD in Spain with sales of 10,196 units in the second half. That figure is higher than Tesla, which sits in second place with sales of 7,166 units.

The Italian market is also quite strong, as they recorded a figure of 9,517 units in the first half of 2025, surpassing BMW and Tesla. However, Brazil has become one of BYD's most successful markets in the world with 47,107 units sold.

Overall, BYD has sold 2,145,954 units in the first half of 2025. This result strengthens its position as one of the largest vehicle manufacturers in the world.

BYD's export numbers are certain to continue to grow as it is ambitious about strengthening markets outside of China. To achieve this, they already have eight car carrier ships with a capacity of thousands of units.
