KatadataOTO – The actions of mass organizations (ormas) that disturb the public are becoming more rampant. The latest incident was experienced by BYD Indonesia.
This has prompted several parties to take firm action. One of them comes from the TNI Military Police.
They claim to have also deployed intelligence units to assist the authorities in cracking down on acts of thuggery.
“We always work together with the National Police to maintain public security and order,” said Maj. Gen. TNI Yusri Nuryanto, Commander of the TNI Military Police Center, to Antara on Wednesday (07/05).
Later, the TNI Military Police intelligence will function for investigation and physical security (lidpamfik), with the hope of assisting intelligence from other agencies.
Then, the information and analysis obtained by the TNI Military Police will be combined with data from BIN (State Intelligence Agency) and the Strategic Intelligence Agency.
So that they can jointly prevent disturbances from mass organizations, such as that experienced by BYD during the factory construction process in the Subang area, West Java.
Meanwhile, legal action will be taken against thuggery, as well as against rogue TNI soldiers if they are suspected of protecting members of mass organizations.
However, the legal process will be carried out in accordance with regulations, so that it can have a deterrent effect on rogue members of mass organizations.
“If there are civilians in the mass organization, then the police will handle it. If there are rogue TNI personnel, then we will handle it,” Yusri continued.
Indeed, it cannot be denied that the acts of thuggery disrupting the construction process of the BYD factory in Subang are quite unsettling.
Moreover, a similar incident was not only experienced by the electric car manufacturer from China. VinFast also fell victim in the same area.
It should be noted that news of the thuggery disrupting the construction of the BYD factory has spread as far as China.
“In Indonesia, the dream of becoming an electric vehicle (EV) hub in Southeast Asia clashes with an old foe: organised crime groups of preman,” wrote the South China Morning Post.
In a report titled "Indonesia's EV Revolution Held Hostage by Preman Gangster Problem", they wrote that thuggery has always been a frightening specter for industry players.
From initially only disturbing street vendors and small businesses, they are now said to be disrupting BYD's production facilities as well.
Even though the project is touted as being able to have a positive impact on the country's economy.
