KatadataOTO – Automotive incentives in the form of subsidies for imported electric cars will be discontinued in 2026. Therefore, brands receiving this government assistance must start locally assembling their vehicle lines starting next year.

BYD is one of them. This Chinese brand still imports all of its products for Indonesian consumers.

Their factory in Subang is still under construction. However, it is said to be completed and operational in 2026.

Referring to the regulations regarding incentives for imported electric cars, BYD must locally assemble its electric car products in the same quantity as its Completely Built Up (CBU) units.

Processed from Gaikindo data, as of November 2025, BYD's import figures have reached 60,455 units. This includes the Denza D9 and does not cover the BYD E6 supplied for taxi fleets.

The Denza D9 itself was imported in a quantity of 9,500 units during the January-November 2025 period. The highest figure was in July with 2,082 units.

The competitive price of the Denza D9, which tends to be lower than other Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs) in the country, is a major attraction for many consumers.

Meanwhile, regarding BYD, the model most imported as a whole unit into the country is the compact electric car, the Atto 1. The cheapest type was imported in 9,965 units, while the variant above it was 7,917 units.

Following the BYD Atto 1 are the Sealion 7 Premium with 9,200 units and the Sealion 7 Performance with 3,500 units.

Throughout November, BYD imports reached 9,520 units. However, the highest figure was in October 2025, with 13,923 units.

Interestingly, in November 2025, their three initial models, namely the BYD Seal, Atto 3, and Dolphin, were not imported at all.

Looking at these figures, BYD must locally assemble at least 60,455 units in 2026 to match the import quantity.

If it fails to meet this requirement, there is a chance its car prices will soar and BYD's bank guarantee will be forfeited.
