KatadataOTO – BYD is set to make a bold move in the near future. They plan to launch an electric kei car.
The Electric Vehicle (EV) will be launched at the Japan Mobility Show (JMS) 2025 at the end of October 2025.
Recently, the actual form of the BYD electric kei car has started to appear. Now, automotive enthusiasts can see the product without camouflage.
Reporting from Carnewschina on Monday (27/10), BYD created this four-wheeled vehicle specifically for the roads of the Land of the Rising Sun.
“This car will be the company's (BYD) entry-level battery-powered electric vehicle,” wrote the online media report.
The BYD electric kei car appears to be painted white. There are also black accents on several of its pillars.
This gives the impression that the vehicle's roof is floating, as it is the same color, white.
In addition, the BYD kei car also appears to be equipped with multi-spoke aluminum wheels painted gray.
The doors still use conventional handles. This manufacturer did not include a flush model.
Moving on to the lights, both the front and rear are smoked. This makes the BYD kei car look quite sporty.
Overall, the new BYD product features a boxy body. It is claimed to offer a fairly spacious cabin.
This is because BYD maximizes space with a short hood design. It also has a long wheelbase and short overhangs.
It is said to allow passengers to get in and out of the vehicle easily when using this EV.
Based on the information circulating, the BYD electric kei car is equipped with sliding second-row doors.
Speaking of the BYD kei car's dimensions, it has a length of 3,400 mm, a width of 1,480 mm, and a height of up to 2,000 mm.
Inside the BYD kei car's cabin, there is a three-spoke steering wheel. It is also equipped with a floating touchscreen head unit.
However, there haven't been many sightings of this electric four-wheeler from China. So, automotive lovers will have to be patient until October 30, 2025, to see it in its entirety.
This environmentally friendly four-wheeled vehicle is rumored to be equipped with a Blade Battery with a capacity of 20 kWh.
It is capable of a range of up to 180 km on a single charge under the WLTC testing mode.
On the other hand, BYD claims the electric kei car is their first exclusive overseas design. It also reflects the company's philosophy of cooling the Earth by 1°C.
