BYD registered a new model design in Indonesia, which externally appears identical to the Denza D9 PHEV version.
KatadataOTO – BYD (Build Your Dreams) will still introduce new products for Indonesian consumers in 2025. Indications point towards competitively priced products to reach more buyers, such as the Seagull.
However, not long ago, BYD again registered a new car design suspected to be a hybrid version of the MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) Denza D9.
BYD has already launched a luxury electric-powered MPV through their sub-brand, the Denza D9. This time, its PHEV variant was registered.
Unlike conventional hybrids, a PHEV can be charged like an electric car and filled with gasoline. This configuration is claimed to make the car more efficient and offer an EV-like driving sensation.
The Denza D9 PHEV began to be offered to consumers in its home country towards the end of 2024. Based on KatadataOTO's search of the Official Industrial Design Gazette data, the MPV was registered by BYD Company Limited, located in Shenzhen, China.
Report No. 27/DI/2025, announced on April 30, 2025, with application number A00202502079, displays several exterior visuals of the suspected Denza D9 PHEV.
At a glance, it looks identical to the Denza D9 EV, but the main difference lies in the grille design. On the Denza D9, the pattern is vertical lines, making the D9's fascia appear large.
Meanwhile, on the Denza D9 PHEV or DM-i, as BYD's PHEV technology is called, the fascia appears more minimalist with a grille of short horizontal lines. Similar to the Toyota Alphard, but with brighter silver accents.
