BYD Sealion 05 EV Allegedly Registered in Indonesia, Here's What It Looks Like

KatadataOTO – Approaching the GIIAS (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) 2025, a number of manufacturers are preparing interesting models to be launched or simply exhibited to the public.

After bringing in the Sealion 7, BYD (Build Your Dreams) was observed registering a model not yet marketed in Indonesia, suspected to be the Sealion 05 EV (Electric Vehicle).

After the Sealion 7, BYD (Build Your Dreams) was observed registering the model suspected to be the Sealion 05 EV with the DGIP (Directorate General of Intellectual Property).

This was recorded in the Official Industrial Design Gazette No. 40/DI/2025 with application number A00202407633. The design was registered by BYD Company Limited, located in Shenzhen, China.

At a glance, its appearance is very identical to the BYD Atto 3 electric car. But upon closer inspection, the door handles used are slightly different from the Atto 3.

The headlights of the two look different; on the Atto 3, they appear sharper. On the car suspected to be the BYD Sealion 05 EV, the corners of the main lights are smoother, like on the BYD Seal sedan.

The character lines on the side of the car are also not the same as the BYD Atto 3. However, there is no complete information available about this vehicle yet.

For GIIAS 2025, BYD is strongly believed to be bringing in the Seagull as their cheapest electric car in the country. So it cannot be confirmed when the BYD Sealion 05 EV will be available to consumers.

In its home country, the Sealion 05 EV is named the Haishi 05 EV. A PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) version is available, with the main difference seen in the grille design.

Launched in March 2025, the price of the BYD Sealion 05 EV at that time was around 16,000 USD or equivalent to Rp 259.9 million when converted to the rupiah exchange rate.

A built-in refrigerator is a unique feature highlighted in this affordable electric car.

The BYD Sealion 05 EV has dimensions of L x W x H at 4,520 mm x 1,860 mm x 1,630 mm, while its wheelbase is 2,720 mm. As a rough comparison, this is not much different from the Atto 3 (4,455 mm x 1,875 mm x 1,615 mm).

In terms of powertrain, the Sealion 05 EV is available with two LFP battery capacity options: 50 kWh and 60.9 kWh. They offer a range of 430 km to 520 km, respectively, based on the CLTC testing method.

If it enters Indonesia, the BYD Sealion 05 EV has the potential to become a new challenger to the Neta X and the Honda HR-V Hybrid in the environmentally friendly vehicle segment.
