KatadataOTO – BYD confirms it will be more aggressive in developing the Indonesian automotive market in 2025. One of the first steps they are taking is to expand their network to be more accessible to the public.
Currently, the Chinese manufacturer has 35 dealers spread across 20 cities in Indonesia. This number is planned to be increased to 80 outlets by the end of 2025, an increase of 45 networks from the current number.
Not only that, BYD affirms it will implement various additional strategies such as participating in national, regional, and mall-to-mall automotive exhibitions. This will make it easier for the public to get to know BYD's products as a whole.
“We have also collaborated with local partners to become part of the BYD family in Indonesia,” said Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, to the media (21/01).
Although not fully operational in 2024, BYD has successfully become the best-selling EV manufacturer in Indonesia. Based on Gaikindo data, the company's wholesales reached 15,429 units, capturing 36 percent of the total electric car market in the country.
From that figure, the BYD M6 was the largest contributor with sales reaching 6,125 units. Meanwhile, the Seal accounted for 4,828 units, the Atto 3 reached 3,291 units, and the Dolphin hit 1,187 units.
“Although not for a full year, BYD has become an important manufacturer in Indonesia, especially in the electric car segment. We have sold (wholesales) more than 15,000 units and captured a market share of 36 percent of the total EV market,” affirmed Eagle Zhou, President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia (20/01).
In addition to ensuring a wider network, BYD will also launch a new brand. One of them is Denza, which is a sub-brand of the company.
The brand will later bring several flagship models, including the Denza D9, which will be a Premium MPV option. The car is reportedly priced from Rp 1.2 billion to Rp 1.3 billion.
