BYD Factory to Operate Early 2026, Atto 1 a Priority

The construction of BYD's factory in Indonesia will be completed by the end of 2025 and will produce vehicles for export.

KatadataOTO – The construction of the BYD factory in Indonesia is scheduled to be completed this year and will immediately start production. Impressively, the facility is planned to cost USD 1 billion or equivalent to IDR 16.2 trillion.
Later, the factory will have a capacity of up to 150,000 units a year. This large number is expected to be optimized gradually in line with the increasing market demand in the country.
“BYD continues to support the government's efforts in accelerating the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem. Therefore, we are committed to realizing the construction of a factory facility that can open opportunities for technology development such as batteries for a variety of New Energy Vehicles, including EVs and PHEVs,” said Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific (20/01).
Not only that, the presence of the factory is also expected to make Indonesia one of the world's electric vehicle production bases. This is because BYD plans to export locally-made vehicles abroad.
“This facility will contribute to meeting various domestic market needs while expanding the export potential of electric vehicles. Thus, it can support Indonesia's potential as one of the electrification vehicle manufacturing centers in the Southeast Asian region,” he added.
The presence of the BYD factory in Indonesia will also open at least 18,000 new job opportunities from various sectors. With this, the opportunity for the local workforce to develop will be more open.
The presence of the factory is also believed to enrich the skills of the workforce in Indonesia. This is because BYD will provide a variety of knowledge about the electric vehicle industry, from vehicle production processes, battery technology development, to electrification.
It should be noted that based on Gaikindo data, BYD's wholesales were 15,429 units while retail sales were 13,964 units. With this, the manufacturer has successfully secured the 11th position among the best-selling manufacturers in the country.
“Although not for a full year, BYD has become an important manufacturer in Indonesia, especially in the electric car segment. We have sold (wholesales) more than 15,000 units and control a market share of 36 percent of the total EV market,” emphasized Eagle Zhou, President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia.
Of that number, the BYD M6 was the largest contributor with sales of 6,125 units, followed by the Seal with 4,828 units, the Atto 3 reaching 3,291 units, and the Dolphin hitting 1,187 units.
