KatadataOTOChangan Automobile has officially entered the Indonesian market. However, the Chinese manufacturer has not yet decided which models it will sell.

However, Indomobil Sukses Internasional revealed that the new brand will focus on the entry-level car segment.

“We are indeed still aiming for the low-segment (car) for Changan,” said Andrew Nasuri, Director of PT Indomobil Sukses Internasional in Jakarta some time ago.

According to Andrew, this decision was made deliberately. Considering the budget car market in the country is very potential.

Therefore, they want to present four-wheeled vehicles for consumers in the entry-level market.

“From their R&D, there are many portfolios that have not been publicly announced. We have seen them and we will adapt them first,” Andrew continued.

Furthermore, Andrew stated that Changan Automobile will also enter another segment, namely commercial vehicles.

He revealed that Changan has quite a lot of commercial vehicles. So Indomobil sees a big opportunity there.

“Because Changan is a more special company. Because they are not just passenger-centric,” Andrew emphasized.

Andrew is also quite confident that Changan can be successful in the country. Considering Indomobil is very experienced in commercial vehicles.

“Other manufacturers are either just commercial or just passenger. We will mix them, so it will be good if we can offer a single package to consumers,” he concluded.

Finally, Andrew explained that Changan cars will most likely be sold starting at the end of this year.

They are also open to the possibility of introducing themselves at the upcoming GIIAS 2025 exhibition.

“GIIAS 2025 is still a bit difficult (for a product launch), because there is R&D that needs to be done. Perhaps as a brand it's possible, but not yet for a model for Indonesia,” he said.

For your information, Indomobil has confirmed that Changan Automobile will produce all its cars in the country, also known as CKD (Completely Knock Down).

This step was taken to follow the Indonesian government's recommendation. So that it can have an impact on the automotive sector.

Then, the assembly plant for Changan is planned to start operating this year.

Because for Changan's four-wheeled vehicles, there is no directive for full imports or CBU (Completely Built Up).
