KatadataOTO – PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) recently confirmed an additional investment of IDR 5 trillion until the 2030 period.

This was previously disclosed by the Ministry of Industry. Chery's investment is said to start from 2024 with a cumulative value that will later exceed IDR 5.2 trillion.

When confirmed, a Chery representative revealed that the investment is expected to help Chery become the second-largest Chinese automotive manufacturer in Indonesia.

It should be noted that Chery is known to be planning to build its own factory in Indonesia.

Currently, Chery's vehicle lineup is still produced at the assembly facility owned by PT Handal Motor Indonesia (HIM).

“The details will be provided later, but this is the beginning of our collaboration to enhance Chery's existence in Indonesia,” said Budi Darmawan, Country Vice President of PT CSI in Jakarta some time ago.

Furthermore, Budi emphasized that the investment from Chery will also be used to create a new production line at the Handal factory.

Chery itself has plans to introduce several products for Indonesian consumers and it is believed they will soon have Completely Knocked Down (CKD) status.

“We haven't finalized it yet, we are still in discussions with the government,” Budi affirmed.

Budi revealed that Indonesia is an important market for Chery at the moment. Therefore, the investment is expected to further develop their domestic sales.

“We will continue to strive to become at least the second-largest Chinese brand in Indonesia in terms of sales,” he said.

For your information, Chery's entire vehicle lineup in Indonesia already has CKD status, meaning it is locally assembled.

This includes their electric vehicle product, the Chery J6 off-road Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), which is one of the backbones of PT CSI's sales in the country.

Then there are the Chery Tiggo Cross CSH to the Tiggo 8 CSH, which are hybrid cars with Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) technology.

The decision for local assembly allows Chery to sell its vehicle lineup at competitive prices.

Currently, the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH holds the title of the cheapest PHEV hybrid car in the country. Its price starts from IDR 519 million on the road in Jakarta.
