Chery Finalizes Plans for Reliable Factory Acquisition, to be Announced in 2026

KatadataOTO – Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) has not yet decided on plans to build an independent factory in the country. This is despite a number of issues that have been circulating recently.

Such as the discourse of acquiring the production facility belonging to Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM), which is now the assembly location for Chery's product line.

“Regarding the factory, we will provide more complete information in early 2026,” said Zeng Shuo, President Director of Chery Group Indonesia in Solo, Central Java some time ago.

He said that Chery is currently in discussions, involving many parties to finalize various plans.

According to him, the discussion has entered the final stage, before the brand from China makes a decision.

“It's still in the discussion stage before the final contract, so we cannot provide further information yet. But I myself hope the final decision can be made soon,” he continued.

Zeng Shuo also stated that they are considering several things in the plan to acquire the Handal factory.

This is important to do to calculate all existing possibilities, so all plans can run smoothly going forward.

“Regarding the acquisition, I cannot say yes or no yet, because both are still possible. Besides that, there are many factors such as the economy, policies, and others that we are still studying,” he emphasized.

For your information, Chery is said to have negotiated with Handal to buy the factory in Pondok Ungu, Bekasi.

"Everything is a possibility, we'll just see how the negotiation process goes," said Rifkie Setiawan, Head of Brand CSI on a different occasion.

Rifkie mentioned that the possibility of them buying the Handal Pondok Ungu factory is quite high.

Considering they have already invested quite a lot there, the negotiation process is currently underway.

"Chery Group is already at full (production at Handal Pondok Ungu). We're using almost all, all of the lines," he continued.

With the facts above, the possibility of Chery buying the Handal Pondok Ungu factory is quite high.

It could be just a matter of time to realize Chery's plan to acquire the Handal factory.

"Yes, we'll just have to wait for that (Chery acquiring the Handal factory)," Rifkie concluded.
