Interest in the Chery Omoda 5 GT was considered low, and sales of the compact SUV have been discontinued this year.
KatadataOTO – PT CSI (Chery Sales Indonesia) has launched updated versions of the Omoda 5 and E5. However, one model from the Omoda group seems to be absent.
The model in question is the Chery Omoda 5 GT, which uses an AWD (All Wheel Drive) system with a 1,600 cc engine.
The Chery Omoda 5 GT was introduced towards the end of 2023 and was intended to complete the Omoda series. The product targeted the younger generation.
Chery has never explicitly stated when the Chery Omoda 5 GT was discontinued, but it is certain that the model is not available to consumers this year.
“The Omoda 5 GT's market is too niche, so it's very limited. In business, we also want to have volume,” said Zeng Shuo, Vice President of PT CSI, when met in Jakarta on Wednesday (26/06).
However, he was reluctant to elaborate on the sales report of the Omoda 5 GT in Indonesia over the past nearly two years.
Only two products from the Omoda series remain, which now use new names: Chery C5 and Chery E5.
Due to limited demand, Zeng confirmed that sales of the Chery Omoda 5 GT will not be continued in Indonesia.
“Only a few units (are left at dealers). Currently, we are only offering those two (Chery C5 and E5),” he affirmed.
The Chery Omoda 5 GT has several changes compared to its original version, the Chery C5. There are orange accents on several parts of the car, such as the wheels and side mirrors.
This model was previously introduced to meet the needs of consumers who were not satisfied with a 1,500 cc engine vehicle.
“Most of them (Omoda users) travel and need a vehicle with capable power. Perhaps they are still not satisfied with the 1,500 cc engine,” said Rifkie Setiawan, Head of Brand Department at PT CSI, some time ago.
Speaking of the powertrain, the 1,600 cc turbo engine of the Omoda 5 GT is claimed to produce 197 hp and a peak torque of 220 Nm.
It uses a DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) model, which is now adopted by the Chery C5, to channel power to all wheels of the Omoda 5 GT.
