Chery Poised to Acquire Reliable Factory in Pondok Ungu

KatadataOTO – The latest news comes from Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI). Specifically regarding plans for independent development in Indonesia.

Currently, the Chinese brand is considering various possibilities for investing their money in the country.

This includes the possibility of buying an existing production facility. Such as the one owned by Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) in Pondok Ungu, Bekasi.

"Everything is a possibility, we'll just have to see how the negotiation process goes," said Rifkie Setiawan, Head of Brand CSI at GJAW 2025 at GJAW 2025.

According to Rifkie, the possibility of them buying the Handal Pondok Ungu factory is quite high.

Considering they have already invested quite a lot there. So the negotiation process is currently underway.

"Chery Group is already at full (production at Handal Pondok Ungu). We're using almost all, all of the lines," he continued.

With the facts above, the possibility of Chery buying the Handal Pondok Ungu factory is quite high.

It could be just a matter of time before this plan is realized.

"Yes, we'll just have to wait for that (Chery acquiring the Handal factory)," Rifkie affirmed.

On the other hand, Handal is still hesitant to disclose Chery's plans. They are keeping all information tightly under wraps.

"I don't know, not yet (no talks have happened)," said Jongkie Sugiarto, Vice President Commissioner of HIM.

As a reminder, the creation of an independent production facility is their commitment to developing the vehicle market in the country.

The construction of the Chery factory, is a continuation of the existing cooperation with Handal.

Although he has not provided detailed information, Budi did not rule out the possibility that the collaboration with Handal could develop much further.
