KatadataOTO – Some time ago, President Prabowo Subianto has been promoting the idea of a national car. Apparently, the plan has received a lot of responses.
Such as the one from Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI). The Chinese brand claims they are ready to contribute to the national car project.
“We essentially support it, of course. As an automotive player, we will just support it,” said Budi Darmawan, Vice Country Director of CSI in Bogor some time ago.
Budi stated that Chery is very ready to collaborate with the government, so that President Prabowo's plan can be realized soon.
Moreover, Chery sees the national car initiative as a positive step, capable of strengthening the local automotive industry ecosystem.
On the other hand, Chery indeed has a wealth of experience in developing vehicles, from conventional cars to even PHEVs.
Therefore, a collaboration with the government is considered to be able to accelerate the manufacturing process of the national four-wheeled vehicle.
“Whatever the government needs (we are ready to help),” Budi continued.
For your information, Prabowo Subianto revealed that an Indonesian-made car will be available in the next three years.
This is because the government has already taken several steps to initiate it, so that in the future, Indonesia can have its own brand.
He even explained that the government has prepared a budget allocation and land for the construction of a factory that will produce the national car.
Currently, the development team is said to be working on preparing this. Thus, the production process can begin soon.
Meanwhile, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, the Minister of Industry, proposed that the national car be designated as a national strategic project (PSN).
According to Budi, if the four-wheeled vehicle with a local brand becomes a PSN, then this project could proceed faster than before.
On the other hand, Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, stated that Hyundai is ready to participate in the national car project.
“They are ready with a certain amount of capital, and that requires more detailed discussion,” said Airlangga, as quoted by Antara.
Airlangga explained that discussions with the South Korean brand will continue, so the progress of this program can proceed quickly.
“Of course, a vehicle has a design and a platform. But the platform being discussed is EV (Electric Vehicle) based,” Airlangga concluded.
Besides Hyundai, Airlangga revealed that a number of large companies from South Korea also intend to invest in the country.
