Government plans to implement E10 ethanol blended fuel policy, Chery speaks up
KatadataOTO – Four-wheeled vehicle manufacturers in Indonesia need to be prepared if the plan to implement fuel oil (BBM) with an ethanol mixture is enacted.
It should be noted that not all vehicles are compatible with fuel mixed with 10 percent ethanol, also known as E10.
In response to this, a representative from Chery hopes the government will implement appropriate regulations before E10 is officially implemented.
“We believe the government has regulations that have found a formula to ensure it is compatible for all brands,” said Rifkie Setiawan, Head of Brand & Marketing Department at PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) in Bandung, Friday (10/10).
He emphasized that PT CSI cannot yet confirm whether Chery's vehicle lineup in the country can accommodate fuel with an ethanol mixture.
Rifkie revealed that his party is currently confirming this matter with the principal.
“We are still confirming with the headquarters about how much ethanol can be (used) by Chery cars,” Rifkie asserted.
On the other hand, Chery markets products that can use ethanol-blended fuel in the Thai market.
So far, according to Rifkie, no complaints or issues have been reported by Chery users there.
Therefore, it is possible that Chery's product lineup in Indonesia is also ready if the E10 ethanol-blended fuel policy is implemented in the future.
For your information, the implementation of ethanol as a fuel mixture is considered to have a positive impact.
The use of E10 fuel can help prevent knocking in modern engines.
The high oxygen content in ethanol is said to increase combustion efficiency for a more complete burn and reduce carbon dioxide levels from a vehicle.
Although in some other countries the percentage is already above 10 percent, observers believe the initial step of E10 is appropriate to pursue the Net Zero Emission commitment set by the government.
However, a transition and further education from the government are still needed before the policy is implemented.
The hope is that it will not result in losses for either users or motor vehicle manufacturers.
Considering that not all vehicles on Indonesian roads have the appropriate specifications to use E10.
The government is expected to prepare public awareness campaigns first and establish supporting regulations before E10 is set as a rule.
