Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV Greets IIMS 2025, Signaling a More Affordable Price

KatadataOTO – CSI (Chery Sales Indonesia) is also enlivening the IIMS (Indonesia International Motor Show) 2025 event. According to KatadataOTO's observation on Wednesday (12/02), they brought the Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV.

The environmentally friendly vehicle is planned to be exhibited to visitors at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.

“We have the Chery Tiggo Cross and a PHEV product to introduce,” said Rifki Setiawan, Head of Brand CSI to KatadataOTO, on Wednesday (12/02).

Rifki stated that they intentionally brought the Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV. This is because the public is still not very familiar with the vehicle.

Additionally, the products available in the market are not very diverse. Therefore, the manufacturer from China is showcasing a car with PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) technology.

“So far, it has been overlooked because of the high price and the limited number of players. In the high-end class, there are only Toyota and Mitsubishi with a price tag of Rp 1.3 billion,” continued Rifki.

Rifki then gave an example of PHEV cars from Lexus to BMW being sold at quite high prices. This makes the public less interested in owning such a unit.

Based on the facts above, they want to market the Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV at a more affordable price than other brands.

However, Rifki is still tight-lipped about the price of this new Chery car. Including when asked if they would sell the PHEV for under Rp 1 billion.

“Later we want to make a more familiar version of the PHEV, the point is we will always make a breakthrough,” Rifki affirmed.

Nevertheless, Rifki confirmed that the Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV will be marketed to consumers in the country this year.

For your information, Chery had already revealed their intention to bring in the Tiggo 8 PHEV since last year.

“We at Chery believe that it (PHEV) is one solution besides BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) and ICE, a product that will help us reduce emissions and enhance the Customer Experience,” said Zeng Shuo, Assistant President Director of CSI, on a separate occasion.

On the other hand, the Philippines is one of the Southeast Asian countries where Chery sells the Tiggo 8 PHEV. The model debuted at the MIAS 2022 (Manila International Auto Show) event.

The powertrain relies on a 1,500 cc Turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor, claimed to produce 153 hp and a peak torque of 230 Nm.

There is also a 19.27 kWh battery, offering an additional range of 95 km without the assistance of the gasoline engine.
