KatadataOTO – The government has officially implemented an additional tax levy or surcharge on motor vehicles in several regions.

Initially, several Regional Governments decided to provide temporary relief in the form of a surcharge discount.

However, as of April 1, 2025, this tax relief will no longer be in effect. This will eventually impact the OTR (On The Road) selling price of cars.

“As of May, those not extending the surcharge discount include West Sumatra, effective April 1. Then Central Java,” said Tri Mulyono, Marketing and Customer Relation Division Head of PT ADM (Astra Daihatsu Motor) when met in Tangerang, Sunday (18/05).

Meanwhile, in several other regions such as South Sulawesi and Belitung, Tri revealed that the discount remains in effect, resulting in a decrease in the surcharge rate.

He emphasized that the selling price of cars, including the Daihatsu vehicle lineup, will be affected by the surcharge.

“For provinces that happen to not extend the (tax discount), there will automatically be a price correction (increase),” he asserted.

Regarding the amount of the price increase, Daihatsu stated that the figures will vary depending on the surcharge percentage and the initial price of the vehicle.

“Some might be around Rp 2 million, but there could also be increases of Rp 6 million to Rp 8 million. It differs in each area,” said Sri Agung Handayani, Marketing and Corporate Communication Director of PT ADM on the same occasion.

Daihatsu will wait until there is clarity regarding the implementation of the surcharge in the respective regions. As of now, the prices of Daihatsu vehicles have not been adjusted.

For your information, the Daihatsu vehicle lineup targets first-time buyers, so price is an important factor in maintaining sales.

The current price for Daihatsu cars in the Jakarta area ranges from around Rp 130 million to over Rp 200 million.
