Hyundai experienced a decline in car sales at the end of the year, marking its lowest point throughout 2025.
KatadataOTO – Car sales in December 2025 closed positively with 18.3 percent growth from the previous month. It was recorded that on a retail basis (distribution from dealers to consumers), 93,833 new cars were sold.
For comparison, in November 2025 the figure was 79,348 units. From the wholesale side, the achievement also rose from 74,131 units to 94,100 units.
The Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) assesses that the rapid increase was triggered by several factors.
“Everyone rushed in December. Maybe there were all-out promotions, big discounts,” said Jongkie Sugiarto, Chairman I of Gaikindo, when contacted by KatadataOTO on Friday (09/01).
Then, the end of several automotive incentives also had the potential to spark consumer interest in purchasing vehicles.
Looking in detail, Toyota still leads with retail sales of 25,268 units, an increase of 4.1 percent from November.
Mitsubishi also recorded positive results. The presence of the Mitsubishi Destinator seems to have contributed significantly to increasing this brand's retail sales to 7,008 units in December.
Chery experienced a slight increase, recording retail sales of 1,414 units. Meanwhile, VinFast appeared to experience the most rapid increase, from 168 units to 7,673 units.
The Chinese car brand, Aion, also secured positive results at the end of the year. Their retail sales reached 1,501 units, while in November it was only 377 units.
Meanwhile, the manufacturer from South Korea, Hyundai is still facing sales challenges towards the end of the year.
Hyundai's retail sales figures have been continuously declining since October. In December 2025, the achievement was 1,200 units.
Hyundai's sales in December were the lowest recorded by PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) throughout the past year.
Various brands indeed faced tough challenges in 2025 due to the onslaught of Chinese cars that regularly introduce new products, offered at competitive prices and tend to be much lower than other models in their class.
Daihatsu managed to maintain an achievement of around 12,000 units per month, but experienced a slight decrease from 12,750 units in November to 1,555 units in December.
